April 6, 2007, Newsletter Issue #55: Deciding Between A Steam Room And A Sauna
1
Tip of the Week
You may be thinking about installing a steam room or a sauna in your home. But which one is better for you?
• Saunas can use a myriad power sources; some are run on dry heat, infrared heat, or steam heat. Even saunas that have steam capabilities can be used dry. Steam rooms only use steam to heat the body. • Both saunas and steam rooms will make you sweat, but sweat is the primary goal of both steam rooms and steam saunas. Dry saunas and infrared saunas have different goals, and you won't sweat as much using them. • Saunas are usually made of wood, whereas steam rooms are usually glass enclosures. If you have specific decorating tastes, pick the one that goes best with your décor. • Steam rooms generate steam from an external steam heater that is usually on a timer; saunas generate steam from pouring water over rocks, which requires more user interaction. If you don't want to mess with the water and the rocks, a steam room may be for you.
