December 1, 2006, Newsletter Issue #37: What Makes A Portable Sauna

Tip of the Week

A portable sauna gives you all the benefits of a full-sized sauna, but without the space dedication a full-sized sauna requires. There are two primary kinds of portable saunas: collapsible tent-like saunas, and box saunas. Both types of portable saunas use either steam heat or infrared heat to warm the body, the same kinds of heat used in full-sized saunas.

Collapsible tent-like saunas are truly portable; they can be assembled and collapsed easily, so they can be moved around your house, apartment, or even taken with you when you travel. They are usually a fraction of the cost of full-sized saunas, providing an affordable sauna alternative.

Box saunas are usually constructed from prefabricated kits sent from a manufacturer, and are not portable in the same way that tent saunas are. They can be assembled relatively quickly, but they are not made to move around frequently like tent saunas are. Rather, they are “portable” in the sense that they can be broken down and taken with you, if you choose to move houses.
